About the job
Kennel workers look after the dogs or cats in their care by making sure they are kept clean, comfortable, exercised and fed. They might also look after other animals such as rabbits, hamsters, guinea pigs or parrots. They can also be known as Animal Boarding Assistants or Workers.In this job you will need to be alert, so you can spot changes in animals' behaviour. You will also need to be physically fit, for walking dogs and cleaning out kennels.
You will not need any qualifications for most kennel jobs, but some organisations do ask for them. Voluntary work is a good way of gaining the experience you need to get into this type of work. There are also college courses you can do, which will help you to develop your skills.
